Today's Market Rate

Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Aurad Shahajani

Since the dawn of human existence, man has depended on nature to satisfy hunger. During the Stone Age, humans learned about fruits and food grains provided by nature and began using them for sustenance. As seasonal fruits, flowers, and grains were unavailable once the season ended, people began storing grain during the harvest and sowing seeds on small plots at the start of the season. This process led to the acquisition of agricultural knowledge.

Subsequently, the barter system emerged. With changing times, a sales system based on exchanging grain for currency began; villages and cities developed, and as populations and needs grew, the pace of buying and selling accelerated. India comprised various kingdoms ruled by monarchs, each with its own agricultural regulations. Later, British rule introduced land tenure systems such as Zamindari, Ryotwari, and Mahalwari. Legislation like the Deccan Agriculturists' Relief Act of 1879 and various agricultural policies helped systematize Indian agriculture.
