Farmers are provided with mortgage loans on the collateral of their agricultural products. During the harvest season, the arrival of produce in the market increases significantly; often, this surge in supply raises the risk of a drop in prices. To prevent farmers from being forced to sell their produce at low rates and to meet their financial needs during this period, the Market Committee implements an 'Agricultural Produce Pledge Loan Scheme' using its own funds, in accordance with the directives of the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board. Under this scheme, loans are sanctioned to farmers against their produce upon the submission of all necessary documentation.
Payments regarding market fees, supervision fees, agricultural produce pledge charges, shop/stall rent, and other miscellaneous items are accepted at the Market Committee. Receipts are issued for payments made via cash, cheque, or net banking, and the collected amounts are deposited daily into the Market Committee's bank account. All these transactions are recorded in the cash book.
Agricultural produce brought in by farmers is sold in the grain section through an open auction system. These auctions are conducted in the presence of licensed buyers, commission agents, and farmers. Accurate weighing of the produce is carried out by licensed weighmen. Auction sale slips are issued by staff appointed by the Market Committee, and farmers receive payment for their produce from the commission agents.
Eleven shops within the Market Committee have been rented out to commission agents/traders on a monthly basis.
